Merchandise Design Competition guidelines for the 2018 St. James Court Art Show
The St. James Court Art Show will host a merchandise design competition for the 62nd annual Art Show to be held October 5, 6 & 7 in historic Old Louisville. As part of our annual show, we sell t-shirts and other items at a merchandise booth on St. James Court, across from the fountain. The winning design will also be included on promotional materials, both print and electronic.
Capture the special elements that make the St. James Court Art Show one of the most popular in the country! Your design should reflect the “feeling” of the Art Show and historic Old Louisville. Some examples of common motifs are the St James Court fountain, Victorian architecture as well as other features that appeal to the designer. The final design must be camera-ready, integrating the following text: St. James Court Art Show, 2018.
Artwork should be submitted electronically by e-mail in one of the following formats:
- adobe illustrator (.ai)
- encapsulated post script (.eps)
- portable document format (.pdf)
The best way to ensure accurate colors is to use PMS (Pantone), although RGB or CMYK will work. Use half-tones with PMS color to save on the amount of colors needed. We will consider ease of printing, including number of colors.
General specifications: Final print size to t-shirts will be 12” wide x 16” tall. We are also likely to print the design on mugs, which will have a height of 3.5 inches. The design will also be used in advertising. You may choose to adapt your design for the relative size of merchandise.
Converting your text to outlines will ensure that the text is viewed as an image, the way you intend it to be viewed, and will not result in substitutions.

Entry Fee: $20.00 per entry
Multiple design entries from one artist are acceptable at $20 per entry.
Deadline for entries
Deadline for entries is July 15, 2018 (before midnight).
Award and Recognition
The applicant whose design is chosen will receive a $1,000 cash award. Announcements of the winning design will be made by July 30, 2018. The winning artist will receive a cash prize by August 31, 2018.
The winning design and completed artwork, including any original artwork used as a component in the finished design, will become the exclusive property of the St. James Court Art Show, which may display publish, reproduce or otherwise use the design in any capacity deemed necessary or desirable.
The winning artist will also be acknowledged on our website and in the program.
